Peace that Passes all Understanding

Yesterday a Youtube friend commented that he had been meditating on Philippians 4:7, which says, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  We both enjoyed this version of Arvo Part’s Da Pacem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vA79jI9cCBE&lc=Ugzesskjf-j6pb_AwAF4AaABAg.AM0W0UelRp8AYtnJs9yf99.

When Arvo Part wrote this he dedicated it to victims of a Madrid train bombing. I didn’t know in 2004 that I would end up traveling to Madrid in 2024 to premier a composition. I didn’t know I would have a second daughter next year (2005). How does anyone predict the future, except in hope. I have four daughters altogether who would learn to make music and go through the Doran Academy of Excellence in Arts and Sciences.

I wrote last week, “As I have been making a new arrangement of the King of Love I reflect on the different stages of people I love through this work.

  1. Very Young are not too foolish and weak to be loved
  2. Teenage are not too annoying and fickle in their emotions to be loved.
  3. Old are not incapable of reflecting God’s strength and care even as their capacities change day to day and they are worthy of love and respect.

All are shepherded and loved with the filling of the Holy Spirit that makes us good waiters. June is not a harvest season here and growing takes waiting. creating our lifestyle or our life’s work, creativity and “making” of beauty have a significant role to play in our abundant life at Doran Music Studio and I look forward to loving and helping about 65 people this fall. 10 private students, 5 students in an online Music and Materials Class and 50 students in Music Appreciation.”

God’s will is that we are fruitful and multiply good to serve one another in the body of Christ and in the world. We make musical things to love people. To remind them of the Peace that passes all understanding being available at any age and stage. After the excitement of being somewhat independent and growing we all need to be faithful in prayer so that peace surrounds our musical efforts and not strife and discord. I will speak on this in my upcoming music and materials class.
