Let’s get ready to start this wonderful year! We are going to be forging mental toughness and thinking offense all the time. (from The Way of the Seal: Think like an elite warrior to lead and succeed https://amzn.to/422GE3Y) I love how he describes VUCA environments. Volatile, Uncertain, Chaotic, and Unpredictable.
Isn’t this what we hate about getting back to work as music-makers? The stable platform for our best practice is always in the idyllic past or the glory of the future but the only opportunity we have to share the beauty of what we do is the present with all its confusion and lack of sparkle and peace. So today my daughter, Grace, is headed off to perfect her collaboration and violin playing skills at a Master class with Dr. Nick Hoy, other favorite musicians are sick with flu, others recovering from rapid fire changes and busy times. If we start putting all our effort into the music today even mentally hearing what we wish our bodies were able to do and imagining the goals being achieved; we are going to be very skillful this Spring. What other option do we have?
As we slog it out through Volatile, Uncertain, Chaotic, and Unpredictable circumstances other musicians listeners are going to be inspired by our musical service and the art will advance and grow. Their hearts will sing and make music that resonates with our joy that changes them and makes their lives more full of comfort and joy. And one day, if we set our heart on the Master of all Masterclasses, the wisest of every teacher, we will hear well-done good and faithful servant! Our Father in Heaven is always listening!
