Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you with all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Col 3:16-17

There is thankfulness to the Lord and singing to the Lord–a richness of his word in us that expands how we talk to one another so that the gospel truths become not only a musical vocabulary in corporate singing times but a pattern of speech among the believers.
Sing to him a new song; play skillfully and shout for joy. Psalm 33:2
You put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Psalm 40:3
My heart is steadfast, O God, I will sing and make music with all my soul. Psalm 108:1
The verb שִׁיר shîyr, sheer “sing”, means to behold, stroll about, declaim go on a journey. Perhaps this means the content of who and what shall be sung about or to whom is this communication directed.
The verb זָמַר zâmar, zaw-mar’ means to touch with the fingers-related to humming, murmuring, and pruning. This seems to relate more to the instrumental sound, twanging, What is used to resonate the sound.
Psalm 13:6 I will sing to the Lord because he has been good to me.
Music, memory, worship and freedom are linked together on this journey. It is important that we direct the praise to God and the content of our teaching will be sweetened with the way we take others on our musical journey of faith and learn the songs of the faithful and add our new songs to them. Even if I am not a rock star or the first chair violinist of the New York Philharmonic I have praise to sing and music to make;and so do you. Let’s make it together!
